a new blog discovery! with crappy pictures!

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Shauna sent this to me. She knows me too well. I loved this so much I had to share. The cartoons are my favorite. totally crappy.

the uppers & downers of parenting (or, coffee & wine)

I am a drug addict. I use uppers and downers.
But only to make me a better parent.
I never drank coffee before I had kids. At least not in a "Fresh Pots!" sort of way. We didn't even own a coffee maker.
Back in those days, I looked down upon anyone who needed coffee in the morning. The more they required it the less I thought of them. They were weak. Slaves to the bean. Didn't they know it is a drug they are addicted to? Just stop drinking that shit and then you won't need it.
Then I had two kids.
Kids wake-up with energy. Kids wake-up with loudness.
Kids wake-up too fucking early.
Mamahelper1
No I will not play with you. Go away. I need coffee.
After coffee:
Mamahelper2
I don't need it. But they need me to have it.
I'll stop drinking it just as soon as they stop waking me up before the rooster crows.
(We don't actually have a rooster. Did you think we did when I wrote that? That would be cool. Maybe I should take this out and let you think we have a rooster.)
So that is my little helper pick-me-upper in the morning.
And then there is the evening.
Sometimes, after an especially rough day, I'm stressed out at night.
Everything sets me on edge. I'm a bundle of nervous thoughts.
Mamahelper3
Go to bed. I can't handle one more minute of this parenting thing. I have to do this again tomorrow! How can I handle another day like this one? Nobody is listening to me!
But then my husband hands me a glass of wine.
After wine:
Mamahelper4
Again, I don't need it. But they need me to have it.
So that is my occasional little calm-me-downer in the evening.
Coffee & wine. My unsung parenting tools.
And yours?

Blah blah blah, yes alcoholism sucks, blah blah blah, notice I said occasional, blah blah blah, did you know that judgmental people are ugly, blah blah blah.
Eating entire pints of ice cream is another favorite unsung parenting tool of mine. As is sneaking chocolate. And snorting huge piles of cocaine.
Just kidding about that last one.

Airplanes

Everytime the boys see an airplane they wave and say
Hi Auntie Val
Hi Auntie Shauna
It's just cute
I love them.

Easter Weekend in Abelingland, Austin

Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Happy Easter from Abelingland! I hope you had a great weekend! We had a fun filled weekend of multiple Easter egg hunts, Easter pinatas (!), tractors (of course), candy, family and friends. Grandma Booba, Grandpa Bob, Auntie Val and Shauna all flew in.

We started on Saturday morning with the crazy Steiner Ranch Easter Egg Hunt. We saw all his friends, Kylee Jo, Haylee, Alex & Evan, Jack and McKenna, Hudson, Michael and Ella. They had over thousands of eggs, face painting, petting zoo (Brandon especailly loved the goats) and a fire track! I was excited to see Nicky hunt for eggs this year, since last year, he was still too little to understand. Just about the same age as Brandon is now.
After the Easter egg hunt, Auntie Val made me take Nicky to get his mullet removed. I cringe just thinking about haircuts. He hasn't had a haircut since his first cut back in Sept. The girl had to sit on the floor while Nicky played with the trains to get some hair cut. And all they were able to do was cut that  first baby curl off...anyways that was a nightmare, and this this time we were much more successful.
Saturday night, we had dinner at Boat House Grill, were we listened to music, watched Nicky play on the playscape, ate hushpuppies and watched the grass grow ;)
Easter Sunday we woke up and decorated Easter Eggs. It was also Shauna's birthday so we made a red velvet cake for her. Yum. The birthday girl got to vote on the best looking egg. Nicky's egg was so pretty! but I came in 1st and second! Yay me. We hid all the plastic eggs my mom MAILED to us (In a huge box, filled with baskets and treats!) around the front yard and Nicky and Brandon had fun finding all the eggs. Nicky even found one in a tree! Some were filled with cars! Horray!
Or neighbors invited us over for their 2nd Easter pinata party and Nicky enjoyed playing with all the neighborhood kids and collecting all the treats that fell from the sky. Dan's father Ray and friend Achim came for dinner. Mom got Tyler's pulled pork recipe and we let that little Boston butt cook for 7 hours until it "pulled" off the bone. We also had tater tots, corn, corn bread, and broccoli -  served dinner on my fine china :)
I took Monday off to enjoy the day with my sister. She decided to take Nicky out of school, and left me at home by myself, while she and Shauna took Nicky to see some tractors. figures.
Overall it was a great weekend and hope you all had a great one too!

Coca-Cola and Me: A Beautfiul Friendship

Sunday, February 14, 2010
Every year I give up Coca-Cola for my New Years Resolution. Apparently, they didn't get the message because they just featured me in a commercial.  yes, you heard me A COMMERCIAL. ON TV. from 4 years ago in Torino. It was at the 1st day of the Women's bobsled event! And I LOOK TERRIBLE. But it was one of 4 happiest and most memorable days of my life. 1. Nicholas' Birth. 2. Brandon's Birth. 3. My Wedding and 4. my twin sister, Valerie Fleming and Shauna Rohbock winning a silver medal for the USA in Torino.

I am frantically searching the internet for a clip of the video to paste, but I did get some clips from the TV. Dan is frantically searching to see if they owe us money. And you must be thinking, how I ever noticed that??! I am good.

I saw this flash across the screen and thought, that kinda looks like me

Then I watched it again and KNEW it was me!
and you can ALMOST see Dan right to my right (his hat)

It is an "Coca-Cola Uplifting Moments" commercial

This is my own picture. I wanted to be sure that was me. Here we are waiting for the race to start in Torino. This was the most awesome day.

Nicky Adventures

Monday, November 23, 2009

Last weekend we had another Mommy and Nicky adventure!  Nicholas and I went to Park City to surprise Valerie for her first World Cup Bobsled race of the season. We left early on Friday morning to be there in time for the race at 3pm.

Nicky did great on the plane. He didn't sleep, but he was very good. We arrived in Park City and there was just a little snow, even though I brought a full on snow suit and all his new snow gear. I kept my secret all week, but couldn't wait to surpise her at her front door. I called her on my way up the mountain I was so excited.

Nicky saw snow for the first time at Vals house and said EWWWW when he touched it. Baby steps. Nicky did pretty good at the race on Friday night but after about 2 and a half hours the cold got too much and Nicky has a mini meltdown. Thanks to Shauna's family and the girls friend Nina,  we were able to keep him warm enough to get to the car. Once we got to the car, he quickly fell asleep in my arms. Val and Shauna didn't have a great start to the season, but there are more races and its a big year for both of them.We met Val and Shauna after the race at Redstone brewery for dinner. Nicky had fun , hestayed up till 10 pm and danced in the streets in Park City.

It was good to see Val and spend time with her before she left for 9 weeks to go on tour in Europe. Nicky loves Val (Vawl) and loved spending time with Grandma Booba (Bubba) and Grandpa Bob (Pa Pa).

The rest of the trip was spent exploring Park City and we headed up to the Utah Olympic Park to take pictures of Nicky in the bobsled and explore the museum. Its snowed on our last day and Nicky loved to catch snowflakes on his tongue. It was a great trip and the ride home was just as nice. Nicky danced in the airport to Pour Some Sugar On Me and made everyone laugh. He is so charming! I loved this picture of Nicky on the plane with his Nemo.
