New Texas Christmas Tradition

Monday, December 5, 2011
Last Saturday, the Abelings and the Turkovich's created a new Texas Christmas Tradition - chopping down a Christmas tree. My mom swore she would move back to California if she didnt have a pine tree. So we had to find one before she spent Papa Bob's retirement to ship one in from Oregon.

So she has been on a mission for the last 8 months. Well, leave it up to her to find the only place that has pine trees - but is also home of one of the most well known Christmas tree farms in all of Texas. Yee-haw! Elgin Tree Fram, has the largest selection of Christmas trees in Central Texas.  On the farm, they grow Virginia Pine, Loblolly Pine, and Leyland Cypress.  Additionally, they furnish bow saws for us to cut our tree, so Nicky was in paradise.

We took a tractor - which the boys loved - out to the middle of the tree forest and looked for our perfect trees. Mom took forever to find the perfect one, but when she did it was a beauty! The boys loved to run around the trees and Nicy had to saw one himself. Brandon loved all the tracktos and the swings and thiuhgt the place was magical. Nicky and Daddy picked ours, - a 6 footer - and I hate it. I prefer the fuller Douglas fir. {I know MOm, I am NOT your daughter}

While the trees where being loaded onto the car, Mom and I went "shoppoing" in their christmas cottage for ornaments and holiday decorations. We spent more money in the cottage then on the trees and Nicky and Brandon ran through their CrazyMaze. On the way home, we stopped at Dary Queen for burgers and milkshakes.
It was a fantastic day {even freezing} and a great way to kick off the holiday season. I can't wait to go back next year.

Christmas Tree Shopping

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

This is my MOST favorite time of year. I love tree trimming! I love my red and green trees!  I love garland and cute ornaments! I love picking out the perfect tree. I couldn't wait for this weekend.

We took the boys to our local tree lot and Nicky picked out the perfect tree; a nine foot Noble fir. BTW, when did Christmas tree start costing over $100?!

Brandon enjoyed looking at all the trees and getting to wear a new knit hat. I think he looks thrilled to be christmas tree shopping, don't you? ;)

Nicky also had his first candy cane, and wasn't to sure about it at first, but quickly finished it and wanted more. He has a sweet tooth like his Mama.

We finished the decorations last night. Dan helped me with the lights (that's why they are all funky) if you look close, you may notice that we did not put any ornaments at little tiny finger level...or puppy level. I am afraid to go home to see what Zeus did with the tree...I hope he ignored it.

The front of the house is also done. I'll take pictures tonight! Merry Christmas!
