Adventures in Annual Family Pictures

Friday, June 24, 2011
Most of you know that every year I take family pictures with the incredibly talented, artistic, and special Michele from Pinkle Toes Photography. This year I was lucky enough to have 2 sessions because Luke was invited to be a newborn model at one her summer workshop sessions.

The first session. Michele came to our house and we took our annual family shots and Luke's newborn pictures with Dan and the boys. The boys were so cooperative and even wore the outfits I  picked out for them. My mom and I spent hours going to every store at the mall until we finally got lucky at Nordstroms. I now notice that I seem to stick with shades of reds and blues. I wasn't planning that; I really tried to stay away from last year's look and feel.

The top black and white picture of the boys is one of my favorites. I love the personality captured and the look on Brandon's face. Nicky looks so peaceful and Luke is a snug as a bug.

It's probably impossible to get a perfect family shot with three boys now, but we will continue to try each year. The shot below makes my heart swell. I have all my men with me and I am full. Life is complete.

4 days later I drove to the Pinkle Toes Studio in Manor for one of the workshops she hosts for Photographers all over the country. It was so neat to be apart of this work and cool to see Luke become an inspiration for everyone. Luke was perfect for the whole session {and the drive home} and I even had my "someday" moment.

In the upcoming weeks, I will be sending out Luke's Birth Announcement and making my yearly update to my blog. I can't wait to share with everyone. Once I have all the pictures I will post them to flickr.

Outfits
Luke: onsie
Mommy: Coral shirt (similar)

I Spy...

...Luke on Freckleface Photography's blog all that way in Canada, eh!
Carol was one of the "students" at Michele's Pinkletoes 4 Photographers workshops and she captured some behind the scenes pictures of Luke.
I can't wait to share the REAL pictures and finally choose a picture for the birth announcements!

The Lucky Baby Model

Friday, June 10, 2011
Thursday Luke was lucky to be a baby model for one of Pinkle Toe's summer Photography workshops
I was honored to share him with Michele and her "students" for just a little while
He worked the room like a champ, professional as always...
hardly broke a sweat
But I think he did break some hearts...
he has already stolen mine
Here are a couple behind the scenes pictures she posted on her blog titled

The Impossible

Monday, June 6, 2011
This was the session that almost wasnt.
A last minute surgery for Dan got in the way of our scheduled session...
I had to cancel in the eleventh hour
But M made things happen, I am grateful -
even if it seemed impossible: an afternoon session with 3 babies under 3....
But the stars aligned, and my boys could not have been more perfect
So, like she said "Today, we did the impossible"
Here is a sneak peak of our annual family photos straight from Pinkle Toe's Facebook page

Newborn Pictures {when Luke arrives}

Tuesday, April 19, 2011
As I head down the final stretch, I have started to look for outfits, hats, and props for my upcoming newborn/family pictures for Luke. It was now that I realized that I never posted pictures from our Family & Brandon's newborn session from back in July 2009 - I wasn't blogging then; we were dealing with a 14 month old and moving into our new house. Looking back,  we were pretty crazy to do what we did before Brandon was born. So I am documenting it now. :)

1 week after Brandon was born, this is what we were dealing with...

I found his announcement that I sent out and it is posted here

Below are some ideas I have for Luke's first photoshoot. I SO so so so  want to get angel wings, but not sure if they are too girly. But, I just adore them and it will piss Dan off, so i will probably do it. I just love the colorful bow-ties and the wood buttons on some of the knit hats. I can't wait!

Below are the pictures we took of our new family in 2009. Nicky was 14 months old, our house was a week old and Brandon is 2 weeks old. You can also see the rest of them here

My "Someday" is Coming

Wednesday, March 9, 2011
Almost a year ago, I reflected on a very personal topic. I wrote about a beautiful, meaningful, incredible connection I had when breastfeeding my boys...and also of a missed opportunity.

A year ago, I didn't think I was able to have another baby - I had a complication with Brandon that makes labor risky for me. I was heartbroken to think that I passed up a chance during my newborn session to capture the essence of motherhood. To document that journey. To share.

I forgot all about this wish until I came across an old post from a year ago and it dawned on me, that in 2 months, another amazing little boy will be here to share this experience with me.

I think Someday is coming soon. See you in two months Michele :)

L is for Luke

DY is for another David Yurman initial pendant!!
I just wish he would make these with Blue (or Pink) stones too.
How fun would that be??
Yay for me!

So much to cach up on....

Wednesday, September 15, 2010
Blogging is like a full time job and I am so far behind! I have a lot to catch up on from weeks ago so get ready for some new posts including: Val and Shauna's visit, tanlines, rocketships, our trip to the Austin Children's Museum, new sets posted to Flickr, new videos, Dan and my trip to SB and Robyn's wedding, Sunday Church Crew, an update on Brandon's visit to the Hospital, and some other random posts that i think of.

So until I can sit down and focus on Abelingland, here is this super cute picture I found of Brandon on ETSY! My little boy is famous ;)

The Yearly Family Pictures

Friday, June 18, 2010
I'll admit it feels like all we do lately is take pictures. In the last three months, we've (me and the boys) had 5 "photo shoots" here, here, here, here, and here

Every year (since last year) we do a family picture and capture the boys on their "birthdays" to replace the portraits we have in our entry way. I've mentioned before how much it stressed me out to find the perfect, not too coordinating, almost mis-matched outfits to wear for pictures. Trying so hard to look like you're not trying causes trmendous amounts of stress for me but I enjoy it. I must thrive on it. I drive my husband bananas. The kids could care less. But to me it matters.

On Saturday evening, we are headed to Lake Pflugerville to take pictures. Here are some outfits I pulled together! We'll see how they come together tomorrow evening.

Wood

Monday, June 7, 2010
A traditional 5th Anniversary gift is wood.
I went a little nontraditional.
Call me crazy.
Call Boudoir the new 5.

{the rest are for Dan's eyes only...}
{for your next anniversary go .emme. boudoir}

Daddy and Me Tie Set!

Thursday, April 1, 2010
Easter is right around the corner and while I was browing for Easter outfits, I came across Apple & Ivy.  I could not resist these adorable matching Daddy and Me Tie. Perfect for Easter, Bluebonnet pictures, or even a Father's Day gift! I requested Daddy and (2) Me Tie sets for pictures we are doing in June. Can't wait! Aand if you buy a set don't forget to share pictures with me. :)

PS. they also have Daddy and Daughter set too!

A little personal but...

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
I want my boys to know how much it meant to me to nurse them. Even if it was only a short time. Even if they never want to think they did that with their mom.. I was that guy  that thought it was abnormal and it would never happen. I opposed it, and fought Dan on it. I thought it was "granola" and "gross" and totally "disgusting".

Then I had Nicky and the minute I saw him it all changed. It was natural and instinctual. In that instant, I became a MOM. It was a connection, a bond, an emotion I never felt before. I was moved. I cried. I LOVED it. I embraced it. But Nicky didn't. Dan and I spent the better part of two weeks getting it right. Finally he did and it worked.

I was devastated at 5 months, when Nicky started to deny it; when a bottle gave him more substance, but it was ok. There would be more.

When Brandon arrived, not only did he take to nursing, he was a natural. Together we were in unison, we spoke the same language. We understood each other. It changed me once again.

Two weeks later, during Brandon's newborn pictures with Michele at Pinkletoes, I had to stop to nurse him. She offered to capture these precious moments on camera. I refused. Now I am heartbreakingly sad that I did. I am not sure if I felt it was too private or I was shy. Or maybe I didn't understand how haunting an image like that could be, but I missed my opportunity.

Every so often she features these special moments between a mom and her baby and my heart aches. Her work is so beautiful, I wanted to share. She calls this "Someday...."
