September Birthdays in Abelingland

Wednesday, October 6, 2010
Last week we celebrated 2 birthdays in Abelingland
Daddy turned 32 (on Sept 30)
Zeusy Peusy turned 2 (on sept 25)

Finally!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010
It's no secret, that we've been challenged to get Nicholas to sleep.
I talk about it here, here, here, here, here, and here.
PHEW!
Last week, against my better wishes and pleas, Dan turned Nicky's crib into a Toddler Bed.
My argument has always been,
"If Nicky doesn't sleep in his contained crib, why would he sleep in an OPEN big boy bed??"
Dan did it anyways.
The first night, as expected, Nicky got up 2-3 times
The next day, I screamed and yelled and gave up
But Dan did not
And that was the first and last time Nicky got out of bed
It's been 6 nights now
the last 5 nights....not a peep
crickets from up in Nickyland
Dan is finally on the board

That means I'm still winning :)

Countdown to TWO...

Friday, April 16, 2010
Dear Nickle Pickle,

April 10th was not only Brandon's 9th month Birthday, but your 23rd month Birthday too. You know what that means? It means you are 1 month away from being TWO! one. TWO. a BIG boy now. I still can't seem to wrap my head around it.While I ponder where the last 2 years have gone, I wanted to share with you, how much I love the way you do the things you do...

...dance with your whole body and wiggle your arms
...say good night to the moon before Bed
...when I sneeze you say "Achoo, Bless You"
...when you see Shauna you yell "Go Shauna, Uoh Es Ay" like that's her name.
...that you know the difference between a Dump Truck, Garbage Truck, and Tractor and specifically the little white and orange ones are Bobcats
...how you will only dress in clothes that have a tractor, car, dump truck on them. Or when I tell you that Tractor Drivers wear seersucker, polos, etc.
...how you say Yes "Yesth"
...how you call Roxy "Foxy" and Zeus "Zeusy"
...how you love new shoes, especially ones that light up, your rain boots, and your crocs
...when you swim in the tub
...when you get soaked in the sprinkler...and drink from the hose
...that you know what a booger and a fart is
...how excited you get when you pee in the potty and run naked into the kitchen looking for a Potty Candy
...how you trick us by sitting on the potty, only to jump up and run naked into the kitchen for a Potty Candy
...how you count to 20, but when you get to 16, you say it 2 more times, then 19, 2. And you are SO proud!
...how we do "a Family roll call" at dinner, in the car, before bed. You name all the family (sometimes classmates too), and we have to say Yes, Nicky
...how you call your pacifier Nini and your Angel Dear blankes Bays
...how when we ask you, you will hug and kiss Brandon
...how marshmallows will make you do anything we want...even if it takes 180 of them
...how excited you get when you see water, birds, bus, bubbles,Elmo, ErnieandBert (they have become one word), a Jeep, the lake, Nemo, Puppies, Percy
...how you love Gina D...and you just might be the only one
...how you hate bugs and spiders...and how you tell me to "get them" when you see ants
...how you you mimic me and call Daddy, "Dan, Babe, and Honey" and unfortunately a couple crap, crap, craps...and even an OH Shit last week. (I know its terrible)
...when you run up and hug me when I pick you up
...when you smile at me
...when you are YOU.

there is another 100 things I could add to this list. I will save them for another rainy day

and finally here is a pictures from aYear Ago today ...

Texas Bluebonnets - Texas Pride

Wednesday, April 7, 2010
3 years ago I moved to Texas and saw the craziest thing: PEOPLE TAKING PICTURES OF THEIR KIDS IN THE WEEDS! ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! EVERYWHERE! Then  I learned about the Texas bluebonnets.

...As historian Jack Maguire so aptly wrote, "It's not only the state flower but also a kind of floral trademark almost as well known to outsiders as cowboy boots and the Stetson hat." He goes on to affirm that "The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland."

Apparently, there is a rather annoying tradition of people wanting to take pictures of their children (and Pets!) in the bluebonnets once they sprout in early March all the way through Mothers Day... consequently, most of the displays beside the highways, which the State seeds at some expense, end up looking pummeled. Apparently a  few years ago, the Texas State Troopers started ticketing people for grabbing a handfuls of them... that's illegal! (Like picking California State Poppies)

Anyhow,  if you have kids its is not only normal but EXPECTED to act like a nut every March/April, get your kids all dressed up, walk through mud and dirt to get these actually really gorgeous and totally Texas pictures. And well, if you know me, then you know, that I HAD TO DO IT TOO! I love embracing tradition!!

I hopped over the back fence this past weekend and had Shauna take pictures of the puppies in the bluebonnets. I call these "Boston Bluebonnets" (original huh?)

One of my good friends, Tara Pottichen is very talented, starting her own photo boutique, and offered (maybe I begged?) to take pictures of the boys in the bluebonnets. We set off last night and look at just SOME of the fantastic pictures she took. I am so in awe of her talent..and my beautiful babies :)

Boys Best Friends

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Here is a little love for my other babies, Roxy and Zeus.Everyone said we were nuts to get dogs when I was pregnant, but we're so happy we did. I grew up with dogs and i want my kids to always have dogs too.  Both puppies have acclimated to the boys and have become a great source of entertainment for Nicky. He calls Roxy "Ra" and Zeus "Seus".

Roxy is a fierce protector, and loves to give them kisses. She won't hesitate to sneak in a french kiss when she can and the boys love it! I figure it helps build up immunities :) She loves to go on walks and Nicky has started to hold the leash himself. I will try to get a picture, because its pretty cute. Roxy kinda walks Nicky, really.

Zeus is our bozo. He is silly and clumsy and completely untrained. We love him anyways. Since Brandon has come along, he has become a little territorial, but he is also a great guard dog. He eats all of the boys toys and nothing is safe on the floor. shoes, balls, rattles. all destroyed.

Its not unusual for them to also share chewy bones. The bastier the better. We've also unsuccessfully tried to get Nicky to stop snacking on the dog food. Protein right? Its pretty universal I think for babies to play/bathe in the dog water bowls too. Makes for good photo opportunities and babies that smell like wet dog. FUN!

I can't wait to watch them all 4 of them grow up together and create wonderful childhood memories!  Love you Roxy Roo and Zeusy Peusy!

My Letter to Nicholas - 17 months

Monday, October 19, 2009
Dear Nicholas,

Happy 17 month birthday, my angel. I've decided to write you a letter each month to document your accomplishments and try to capture what life is like for you at this time. Needless to say, you (and your brother) have become what I live for. I love watching you develop into my little man. I wont say that these past months are easy - you are a handful! You're daddy and I never know what will come next with you. Nicky, you are wild, completely unpredictable, non-stop chaos and delight, willful and adorable, smart and playful, curious and stubborn. You test us each day, mostly Daddy...Mommy has more patience :).

At 17 months, you have become very vocal and make sure we all know. I tried making a list of all your words, but now I can't keep up. This month, you started shaking your head Yes and No. You can repeat almost any word we say. You will often throw your hands up and say "I don't know". Right now we are working on "Trick or Treat", but it's still a tongue twister. I have no doubt you will have it down pat in time for Halloween.

You can say the names of your friends at school, especially Kylee Jo. It comes out...Kaiyee. Speaking of school, I love watching you through the window before we pick you up. I can't describe the rush of emotion I feel every time I see you so independent - playing with your friends, dancing to the music, covered in paint, or even sitting by your self reading a book. I am so proud of you.

Nicholas, you must get this from me - you love books. I think most kids do, but I hope this love stays with you. It will open up a whole new world for you one day. I can't wait to read you the Harry Potter series. Mostly because I can't wait to read them again!

Right now you sit in the "book closet" before bedtime and we read all your books. We try to finish off with Good Night Moon - it seems to calm you down - if that's possible. Then we say "Good Night Daddy, Mommy, Brandon (baby), Roxy, Zeus, Grandmas and Grandpas, Alex, Val, Frank, and Amy." and then we go to your room, turn on your lullaby music, give you your nini, your blankets, and you grab all the tags and put them to your ear.

I kiss you good night and *hope* that you will lay down and go to sleep. If we are lucky you do, if not, its about 10 - 30 minutes of you crying out for us. It breaks our hearts, and many times Daddy gives in and goes up there to sing you softly to sleep. He sings "Good Night Nicky, Good Night Nicky, Good Night Nicky, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight." it works. You adore your Daddy.

At 17 months you can eat with a fork and spoon. You love to drink out of a water bottle and can even put the cap back on. At dinner time like to play with your food, and usually throw it all on the floor for the doggies to pick up. You say "Ca" for Chocolate because Daddy gives you Hershey Kisses. You tell us when you want juice or milk or water. Your favorite foods are still fruit and crackers, but you also like hot dogs, fish, chicken, pasta, anything Mexican or Thai or Chinese. Usually the best way to get you to eat EVERYTHING is to feed you on our laps. This is like a treat for you!

Nicky, you are so loving. You will kiss us and hug us. Sometimes bite us. That's fun.

Every morning when you wake up you climb up on our bed and hug the doggies. Roxy and Zeus usually respond by licking you all over. This makes you laugh. You are so ticklish and we love to rough house with you. You usually say MORE! MORE! and we have to flip you upside down until you are dizzy and we are exhausted.

I love to hear you say Mommy, to watch you sweep the floor, to hear you say Ra for Roxy. I love watching you run around the couch and wait for us to catch you. I love watching you fall asleep, and I can't wait to feel your arms around me. I love it when you smile and when you say a new word. I love your little tail, and the color of your eyes. I love it when you clap after you have accomplished something. I love when you hold my hand. I love when you draw on the new floors and when you run away from dead bugs. I love dressing you in cute clothes and watching you run around naked. I love when you kiss your brother, and when you fall asleep with Daddy. I love YOU and love being your Mommy. I am so lucky you are mine.

I love you always,

Mommy

Is it Fall yet??

Wednesday, September 9, 2009
We had a really busy weekend, even though it felt like we did nothing. Friday night we took the boys to Waterloo Ice House to meet up with some new friends, the Molers. They have kids the same ages as Nicky and Brandon and I know in a year from know we will be very happy to sit back with an ice cold beverage while they play with Davis and Anna.

Saturday we got up to go to Gymboree's Fall Party, and when we got there we found out its this coming weekend. Opps...so we went to Chair King and bought some new patio furniture for our outdoor courtyard. Here we are enjoying our new loveseat. Its impossible to get both boys to look at the camera!

Nicholas also got a new table. He is a serious art student, so we bought some fine crayons and art paper to help him hone his drawing techniques. Then he ate them and made some pretty orange marks on the new walls.

Saturday night Dan and I went out by ourselves! We got a sitter, the wonderful Lori Sweeney and we went to The Paggi House for one of the best dinners I've ever had in Austin. Dan had lobster bisque, salmon tartare, and leek and corn risotto. I had the beef tenderrloin with truffled fingerling potatoes and wild mushroom ragout. Soooooooooooo good. I highly recommend it.

This weekend, the temperatures actually dipped below 100 degrees and we even got some sporatic rain.We tested the new stroller and fell in love. The Valco has lived up to his reputation so far and the boys seem to like it too. Its very easy to control and drive. Plus its very sophisticated to look at! :)

We visited Matt and Kristi Brown for their Labor Day party, and Nicky went to Colin Cooks birthday party. We capped the weekend off with a day at the pool and dinner with Grandpa Ray Ray.

I think the highlight of the whole weekend was Nicky saying Val for the first time. He was so proud of himself and I know it made Val's year and has crushed my mom that he hasn't say Booba first. We're working on it, and we're close...Bubba. But the first family name he said was not Val, but Zeus!

until next time!

xoxo,

Vicci
